João Poças Martins is the Director of R&D at BUILT CoLAB. He is also an Assistant Professor at the Civil Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto, where he received a PhD in Civil Engineering (Automated Code Checking of Water Network Designs using BIM).
He has been responsible for courses about Information Systems in the Construction Industry at the University of Porto, Porto Business School, the Portuguese Engineering Association, ESITC Caen France, THM Giessen Germany and VIA UC, Denmark. He is the co-director of the MBUILD Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree.
His current research interests include Digital Construction, BIM and Virtual Reality in the AEC sector. He has published over 100 papers on these topics in the last 5 years with over 1500 citations. He has taken part in several research projects in the domains of Construction Information Management and the use of IT in Engineering Education.
He is a member of the BIM workgroup of the Portuguese Technology Platform for Construction and collaborates in the development and adaption of BIM standards as a member of the Portuguese TC 197 for BIM. He is also a co-founder of BuildingSmart’s Portuguese chapter.
