Carolina Briceño delivers presentation at the 19º Congresso Nacional de Geotecnia (2026)

On May 13th, 2026, Carolina Briceño delivered a presentation entitled “Monitorização contínua da rigidez das camadas granulares de pavimentos por meio de bender elements” at the 19º Congresso Nacional de Geotecnia, held from May 11–14, 2026, in Vila Real, at the UTAD campus.

The Congresso Nacional de Geotecnia is the principal event of the Portuguese geotechnical community, organized by the Sociedade Portuguesa de Geotecnia (SPG) in collaboration with UTAD. The 2026 edition, under the theme “Desafios e Inovação da Geotecnia”, brought together researchers and practitioners to discuss advances in geomaterials, monitoring technologies, and innovative approaches in geotechnical engineering.

Carolina Briceño’s presentation addressed the development of a system for the continuous monitoring of the stiffness of unbound granular pavement layers using Bender Elements, integrating numerical modeling and experimental testing. The work presented corresponds to the paper co‑authored by C. Briceño, M. Parente, M. Roshan, M. Azenha, A. Gomes Correia, J. Rocha, M. Martins, J. Chidassicua, I. Moldovan, H. Silva, and E. Tutumluer.

In addition to presenting her own paper, Carolina also introduced part of the experimental campaign described in another contribution to the conference, entitled “Sistema Integrado de Monitorização Contínua de Materiais Granulares Não Ligados em Pavimentos Rodoviários: Aplicação em Trecho Experimental”, co‑authored by José Neves, Ionut Moldovan, Hélder Silva, Sandra Pinto, Carolina Briceño, João Moutinho, Manuel Parente, João Afonso, Maria José Almeida, Miguel Azenha, and António Gomes Correia. This complementary work highlights the implementation of an integrated monitoring system in an experimental road section using both conventional and advanced sensors.
